The Dow Slips 38 Points, Because It's Time for a Pause

Nothing Gold Can Stay. Stocks slipped into the red by midday Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 38.20, or 0.15%, to 25,373.32. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite are off 0.31% and 0.44%, respectively, at a recent check.

Although many Asian exchanges are closed for the Lunar New Year holiday, investors are still worried about U.S.-China trade. That, coupled with oil’s decline and an unexpected fall in German factory orders may be giving the market pause today. Earnings season rolls on in the U.S., although companies are starting to lap the one-year anniversary of lower corporate taxes, meaning we’re seeing less lift in reports from that tailwind.
