Shares of Johnson & Johnson JNJ, -0.13% and McDonald’s MCD, -0.46% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, +0.62% is trading 74 points (0.3%) higher. Johnson & Johnson’s shares have risen $3.50, or 2.7%, while those of McDonald’s are up $3.61 (1.9%), combining for an approximately 48-point bump for the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the gain include United Technologies UTX, +1.16%, Merck MRK, +0.31%, and Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, +0.34%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow results in a 6.78-point swing.
